What Should I Do If I’m Hurt at Work?
Your safety matters. If you are injured while working a TLC shift, it’s important to follow the proper steps so both the children and you are cared for appropriately.
Step 1: Make Sure the Children Are Safe
If you are unable to safely continue caring for the children due to your injury:
- Notify the family immediately
- Remain with the children until a parent or approved adult can take over care, unless emergency medical services direct otherwise
- Contact TLC as soon as possible so we can assist with coverage if needed
Step 2: Seek Medical Attention
If your injury requires medical care:
- Call 911 in an emergency
- Visit urgent care, your doctor, or the emergency room if needed
- Do not ignore injuries that could become worse later
Your health and safety should always come first.
Step 3: Complete the Incident Form
Once the immediate situation is stable, all workplace injuries should be documented. Please complete the TLC Employee Incident Report as soon as possible:
It will ask you:
- What happened
- When and where the injury occurred
- Whether medical treatment was needed
- Whether you are able to continue working
Once submitted, a TLC team member will review the report and follow up with you if additional information is needed. Reporting injuries promptly helps us support caregivers appropriately and maintain a safe environment for everyone.
We will reach out with any additional next steps that may need to be taken.
