Can I Drive Children During a TLC Shift?
Driving children during a TLC shift is only permitted for approved private shifts. Transportation is not allowed during corporate care shifts. Caregivers should never transport children without prior approval and a completed transportation waiver on file.
Step 1: Confirm the Shift Type
Before transporting children, verify whether the shift is a private shift or a corporate care shift.
- Transportation is not permitted during corporate care shifts
- Driving may only be allowed for approved private shifts
- If you are unsure about the shift type or transportation permissions, contact TLC before driving
Caregivers should never assume driving is automatically permitted.
Step 2: Make Sure the Transportation Waiver Is Completed
A transportation waiver must be completed before transporting children during an approved private shift.
Please have the family complete the waiver here:
If you are unsure whether a waiver has already been completed, contact the TLC office for guidance.
Step 3: Follow All Safety Requirements
Before driving:
- Ensure children are properly secured in appropriate car seats or boosters
- Follow all state car seat and passenger safety laws
- Never use your phone while driving
- Confirm you are comfortable with the route and transportation expectations
Safety should always be the top priority while transporting children.
Step 4: Communicate Clearly With the Family
Before leaving with children:
- Confirm where you are going
- Make sure the parent is aware of transportation plans
- Keep emergency contact information accessible
- Notify the family of any delays, concerns, or emergencies
If you are ever uncomfortable transporting children for any reason, communicate that to the family or TLC team.
When in doubt, contact TLC before driving.
