Can Children Use Trampolines While I’m Babysitting?
Trampolines can be fun, but they also carry a higher risk of injury. Caregivers should not allow trampoline use during a TLC shift without parent approval and a completed waiver on file. Caregivers should not actively jump on the trampoline with children. Your role is to supervise and observe the activity, only stepping onto the trampoline if a child needs physical assistance or support.
Step 1: Make Sure the Trampoline Waiver Is Completed
A TLC trampoline waiver must be completed before trampoline use during a shift.
Please have the family complete the waiver here:
If you are unsure whether a waiver has already been completed, contact the TLC office for guidance.
Step 2: Ask if the family has any Trampoline rules
Before allowing children on a trampoline:
- Ask about any household trampoline rules or restrictions
- Clarify which children are allowed to participate
Step 3: Review Safety Expectations
Before the trampoline activity begins:
- Check that the area appears safe and free from hazards
- Follow any household safety rules
- Encourage safe jumping practices
- Limit dangerous behavior such as flips, wrestling, pushing, or rough play
Caregivers should use caution and sound judgment at all times.
Step 4: Provide Active Supervision
Children using a trampoline should be supervised closely at all times.
- Remain nearby and attentive
- Avoid distractions like phones or other activities
- Monitor children for unsafe behavior
- End trampoline activity immediately if safety becomes a concern
If you are uncomfortable supervising trampoline activity for any reason, communicate that to the family or TLC team.
Safety should always come first.
